Fuji and Universal Mechanics...update

Some years ago I let go of my studio on  Congress Street in Portland, Maine and set out for an extended stay in Los Angeles. I had to dream up a way to do my work without a dedicated space. I wanted to devise a large project using small component parts in a variety of media and came up with the idea of juxtaposing objects with a mountain... which slowly morphed into the image of Mount Fuji. All of this was certainly influenced by the Fuji genre in general and Hokusai's "100 Views of Mount Fuji" in particular. Although I've since returned to Maine the series has taken on a life of its own. While in no way comparing myself to Master Hokusai, to date I've completed well over 100 0f my own "Fujis" ...among other things. On November 1st I will have worked on the series for ten years.

Fuji Friday: Great Sun Fuji

Today I'm proud to announce the commencement of Fuji Friday. The Fuji Series is ongoing and allows me to explore all manner of things juxtaposed against the backdrop of Japan's iconic mountain, using a variety of media.  Today's offering is the "Great Sun Fuji".  During these shorter days, it's as if Old Sol himself has to make an effort to awaken... right along with the rest of us.
