About..."The Exalted Order of the Blue Pine"

"The Exalted Order of the Blue Pine" started as a preliminary study for a painting called "Prototypes". I often wonder at various theories regarding creation, as well as the genesis of belief systems. 

I thought that there could well have been a trio of Female Deities who engineered and presented a subspecies of pine to be considered for production by "The Benign Universal Commission for the Creation of Trees". This "Exalted Order" would have been wise beyond knowing ...each member anointed by the animating spirit of the Cosmos, hence the tongues of flame. The presentation would have been a Solemn and Sacramental Occasion.

I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, there are Seven Sacraments ...one of which is "The Holy Eucharist", where bread and wine are consecrated, becoming the Body and Blood of Christ. 

One of the nuns teaching one of my daily Catechism classes told us that in a pinch... any sort of bread or wine would do. Wonder Bread (a now discontinued Hostess product)  I realized at the time, would have done nicely. Wonder Bread came wrapped in a package decorated with "the familiar red, yellow and blue balloons". 

I referenced the balloons when I painted the veils.

This piece, in its way, relates to a drawing that I've done called "The Invention of Clouds".
