Fuji Friday...Flösshilde Fuji (after Beardsley)

I love Aubrey Beardsley's drawings. He was probably the single most influential artist of my life. As a teenager, I dipped my pen into a bottle of India Ink hour after hour trying to imitate his work. I am still bowled over by his virtuosity. Beardley's health was quite fragile and sadly, he lived only twenty five years. Beardsley said that he did his work "... for the fun of it ... I have worked to amuse myself, and if it has amused the public as well, so much the better..."

I have shamelessly copied his drawing of Flösshilde the Rhinemaiden and drew her as I imagined she would appear flying past Fuji, because ...it amused me.
