Fuji Friday...Fuji with Pearls

Today (as Pee Wee Herman has reminded me in his always informative Facebook posts) is National Jewelry Day. This is a good day to wear pearls.

The Hindus thought that pearls fell like rain from the Moon and the ancient Persians believed that pearls were formed when lightning struck the sea. Pearls are, as we now know, formed within oysters.
A grain of sand enters the oyster's shell and the crafty bivalve coats the irritant with layers of nacre, or Mother of Pearl...ahhhh, that's better.  My mother would buy my brothers and sisters and I coats and jackets and would replace the plastic buttons with those made of Mother of Pearl. She said that they would look much nicer, and she was right.

Pearls have come to symbolize wisdom along with a transcendent... let alone translucent... victory over the slings and arrows of fickle fortune through patience, perseverance and persistence.
